Bridal Crawl

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Last year’s inaugural Bridal Crawl, hosted by Memorial Auditorium and featuring merchants in Downtown Pittsburg, was such a success that future brides and the merchants asked for a repeat this fall. Memorial Auditorium staff was happy to comply.

The crawl will kick off on Friday, Sept. 22, at Memorial Auditorium. Brides, mothers and others may pick up passports on the main level between 4 and 6 p.m. for $5 each. There, they may have the opportunity to browse booths of wedding-related merchants who don’t have storefronts. Brides and their parties may then fan out across Downtown Pittsburg to visit merchants featured on their passports.

At each stop, they’ll get to taste, try on, sample, ask questions, and get passports punched by that merchant. Crawl-goers may then return to Memorial by 9 p.m. for a mock reception featuring complimentary drinks, hors d’oeuvres, music, and centerpieces provided by main event sponsor Little Shop of Flowers.

Those who get their passports punched and entered into the drawing will be eligible to win the grand prize: a free wedding reception donated by Memorial Auditorium. Main event sponsors will give away prizes, as well: Sweet Designs Cakery will give away a free...  More >>

PCT's "After Dark" Series "The Last 5 Years"

Musical-turned-movie first in PCT's "After Dark" series Pittsburg Community Theatre's first "After Dark" performance for mature audiences is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5-7 at Memorial Auditorium. "The Last 5 Years," a modern musical-turned-movie by Jason Robert Brown, ingeniously chronicles the five-year life of a marriage, from meeting to break-up and from break-up to meeting. ? ?An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show. A Drama Desk winner, The Last Five Years has been translated into a handful of languages and was named one of TIME Magazine's ten best shows of 2001. A testament to the show's longevity, and spurred by the show's regional popularity, it enjoyed an Off-Broadway revival at Second Stage in 2013. A film adaptation was released in 2014, starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

Directed by MJ Harper. Produced in cooperation with Music Theatre International Tickets are $8 general admission for balcony seating, or $10 and $12 for main floor reserved seating.

Seminar - Empowering Employees with Financial Well-Being

Empowering Employees with Financial Well-Being presented by Lockton Companies.

Financial well-being is a concern many people share - nearly a quarter of the American workforce reports high levels of stress in this area.
30% of American families have a household budget and have a long-term plan for savings and investments.
70% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck.
64% of Americans don’t have enough available cash to cover one mortgage payment or to even purchase one month of groceries.
55% of Americans have less than $25,000 in retirement savings- and 45% of these are over the age of 55.

Financial well-being is one of the most important-and often overlooked- determinants of overall health, absenteeism and productivity. However, only 15% of US companies offer any education around debt management and budgeting for their employees. While many organizations have implemented wellness programs, these are typically based on a traditional approach that focuses primarily on physical health, ignoring the significant affects that financial stress and other elements can have on one’s overall well-being. Financial distress could well be dubbed the silent emergency in human capital, yet less than half of large U.S. companies have, or plan on having, a financial wellness strategy in...  More >>

4-State Heroes Appreciation Tour

Military veterans will receive a well-deserved salute at a free event hosted by Pittsburg Ford on Thursday, October 12. The recognition will be held from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the dealership at 1097 S. 69 Highway. The special event is part of the Midwest Ford Dealers’ “4-State Heroes Appreciation Tour” in partnership with KOAM-TV and FOX 14.

Veterans and those currently serving in the Armed Forces will receive a free lunch at the dealership as a thank you for their service. Family members are welcome to attend. Those wishing to nominate a loved one to be recognized as a 4-State Hero will be able to do so at the event.

KOAM-TV President and General Manager Danny Thomas said “it’s an honor to provide our military veterans with a public acknowledgement of their service through our 4-State Heroes platform.” He continued, “Since we launched 4-State Heroes in 2005, thousands of area veterans have been honored.” Once a nomination and photo are received, the heroes are recognized during a KOAM or FOX 14 Newscast and become part of the website, www.fourstateheroes.com , dedicated to 4-State Heroes.
