Little Balkans Coal Camps: Mulberry

Kathleen will focus on the history of the city of Mulberry.

Date:  Sunday, June 11

Time: 2 pm (Doors open at 1:45). After the program you are welcome to view the special quarterly exhibit "Little Balkans Coal Camps: Mulberry".


Held in conjunction with: Special quarterly exhibit "Little Balkans Coal Camps: Mulberry" hosted by  Kathleen (Stewart) Henegar, who was born and raised in Mulberry and is a 1960 graduate Mulberry High School.


Reservations: Suggested by not required


Admission:  Free.


History: Originally, the camp was named Mulberry Grove because of a grove of wild mulberry trees that stood on a former Indian camping and hunting site, where the town was laid out. The stage coach line on the Military Road began in 1866. The post office at Mulberry Grove was established in 1869. It was a stopping place on the Military road. Mining began in the region in the 1870’s which led to its growth.

Equivalency Diploma (GED)

Enroll in Adult Basic Education located at CTEC (Southeast Ks. Career & Technical Education Center of Crawford County) @ 1301 East 27th Street Terrace, Pittsburg, Ks. 66762

Classes start July 11th, 2017

3 hour Sessions are offered

  •  Mornings

  •  Afternoons

  •  Evenings

    Orientation will be Tuesday, July 11th, Wednesday, July 12th and Thursday, July 13th.

    The following classes will run Monday through Thursday over a 9 week course.

    Jamie Collier is the class instructor

    16 and 17 years of age must show documentation that they have been un-enrolled from high school.

    A picture ID (Driver License) will be required for identification. ID is necessary to take the required "GED Ready Tests".

    Enrollment fee is $30.00 (due by first day of class) and covers the GED practice test, Accuplacer college entrance exam and Work Keys Employment Skills Test, in addition to transition services.

    GED test fee is $132.00 and is due when the instructor advises you are ready.

Four State Farm Show

Held each July, the Four State Farm Show brings thousands of farmers and ranchers to a 300-acre farm near Pittsburg, Kan., for three days of agricultural product displays and equipment demonstrations. With approximately 700 exhibits, the event features all of the major lines of farm machinery and equipment as well as innovative products from agribusiness firms across the country. The 25-acre Farm Show site will over-flow with a vast array of farm equipment, seed, feed, agri-chemicals, livestock, farm buildings, grain bins, livestock handling equipment, tires, tools, trailers and much more. The tremendous range of agriculturally-related goods and services annually provides farmers and stockmen with a unique opportunity to shop and compare in one location.
