11th Annual Disability Mentoring Day for Southeast Kansas
This year, the Memorial Auditorium will be the site for our event from 9:00 to 1:30. DMD is designed to promote career development for students with disabilities. We have students from 13 Southeast Kansas schools and a number of CLASS and New Hope customers that will be joining us for the day. The goals of DMD are to enhance employment opportunities for students with disabilities, to dispel employer’s myths and fears about hiring people with disabilities, and to increase the confidence of the students. We give the students the opportunity to fill out an application online, how to dress and behave during an interview, how to prepare for an interview and will be conducting mock interviews. Mock interviews with the business managers are an important part of the day. The input from the business managers is crucial to the student’s learning experience for the day. Our social media station has been a favorite the last several years, so we will have PSU students joining us again to discuss the pitfalls of social media that can impact a job search.
However, this event would not be possible without the cooperation of our local community leaders taking time out of their valuable
schedule to work with us. We would like to invite you to join us for DMD and share information about your business and work with the students. When we have the support of a community leader as you, it shows the students that the community is interested in their success in life. We set aside time and a table for each business so that you can interact with the students. If we can make a difference in even one student’s life with this event and introduce them to the skills that are needed to make a successful entry into the business world, the student’s life and the community will be enhanced.
We serve breakfast and lunch to the students through the generous support of local businesses.
We hope that you will be able to participate in our event. We need the leadership of community leaders and business owners to make this a success. If you have questions, please contact Lou Ann Colyer at her contact information listed below. Please RSVP by Monday, November 15th. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your consideration of our project.... More >><< Less
