An Unappreciated Skeptic: Emanuel Haldeman-Julius & Religion

Join us this Sunday, November 10 at 2 p.m. at Miners Hall Museum in Franklin, KS for this special program. The program will be presented by Dr. Don Viney.

Dr. Viney’s presentation will examine E. Haldeman-Julius’s history of skepticism about religion and how as a key figure of his time this was reflected in his work, writings, and Little Blue Book publications.

This special program is being presented in conjunction with the special quarterly exhibit “Little Blue Books 100 Years!” hosted by Linda Knoll. MHM is proud to display this special quarterly exhibit.

Program begins at 2 p.m. (doors open at 1:45) and admission is free. We would appreciate a call if you plan to join us so we can plan for adequate seating (620-347-4220). Donations are accepted and appreciated. After the program you are welcome to view the special quarterly exhibit.

Come check out the newly renovated Axe Library and Axe Grind (Starbucks coffee shop) and grab coffee for you and your crew! 

Axe Grind will be open for the last home football game of the season on November 16th from 11:00am until kickoff. We will be offering our full Starbucks menu as well as coffee to go for 10! Also available will be Einstein Bros. bagel boxes (including 13 bagels and 2 shmears).

The Foundation for CLASS 32nd Annual Ball
Everyone is invited to join us at the Bicknell Center on the Campus of Pittsburg State University, November 16, 2019 for the 32nd Annual CLASS Ball. This year it is a Masquerade event with silent and live auctions. Formal dinner and band.  CLASS Supports individuals in SE Kansas who are intellectually or developmentally disabled and this is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Trip Raffle is new this year. $50 gets you one chance to win. $100 gets you three chances to win a $3,000 trip voucher. You pick where you want to go!

Join us this Sunday, December 1 at 2 p.m. at Miners Hall Museum in Franklin, KS for this special program. The program will be presented by Holly Reed.

The presentation by Ms. Reed explores Ben and John Gunn’s local newspaper publishing business, 

John’s work on Little Blue Books, his relationship with both Marcet and E. Haldeman-Julius, and the impact this had on the publishing of pocket size books.

Mount Carmel Foundation Remember Me Tree Ceremony
The Remember Me Tree is a beautiful way to honor a loved one during the holiday season.  Two trees will be on display this year. In addtion to our usual tree at the Meadowbrook Mall, we will have one in the hospital at the Community Entrance.  The trees will be on display November 25th and names will be read at the ceremony.  To purchase your ornament online or to download a form for an ornament, visit our website at www.viachristi.org/mtcarmelfoundation.

Mother to Mother Gift Wrapping Fund raiser

We will wrap gifts for anyone during these dates. We ask for a donation, typically $2.00/package.  All proceeds benefit Mother to Mother Ministry.  Wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, boxes, etc. are provided for the customers.  We will also have some "Thank you to a caregiver cards" available for sale at this event.

Red State: Socialism and the Free State Press

Join us this Sunday, December 15 at 2 p.m. at Miners Hall Museum in Franklin, KS for this special program. The program will be presented by Matthew Thompson.

The presentation by Mr. Thompson will discuss the rise and fall of the Socialist press in Kansas, as well as its causes, leaders, and detractors, and explore the role of the free press. Funded by Humanities Kansas.
