An Unappreciated Skeptic: Emanuel Haldeman-Julius & Religion

Join us this Sunday, November 10 at 2 p.m. at Miners Hall Museum in Franklin, KS for this special program. The program will be presented by Dr. Don Viney.

Dr. Viney’s presentation will examine E. Haldeman-Julius’s history of skepticism about religion and how as a key figure of his time this was reflected in his work, writings, and Little Blue Book publications.

This special program is being presented in conjunction with the special quarterly exhibit “Little Blue Books 100 Years!” hosted by Linda Knoll. MHM is proud to display this special quarterly exhibit.

Program begins at 2 p.m. (doors open at 1:45) and admission is free. We would appreciate a call if you plan to join us so we can plan for adequate seating (620-347-4220). Donations are accepted and appreciated. After the program you are welcome to view the special quarterly exhibit.

Come check out the newly renovated Axe Library and Axe Grind (Starbucks coffee shop) and grab coffee for you and your crew! 

Axe Grind will be open for the last home football game of the season on November 16th from 11:00am until kickoff. We will be offering our full Starbucks menu as well as coffee to go for 10! Also available will be Einstein Bros. bagel boxes (including 13 bagels and 2 shmears).

The Foundation for CLASS 32nd Annual Ball
Everyone is invited to join us at the Bicknell Center on the Campus of Pittsburg State University, November 16, 2019 for the 32nd Annual CLASS Ball. This year it is a Masquerade event with silent and live auctions. Formal dinner and band.  CLASS Supports individuals in SE Kansas who are intellectually or developmentally disabled and this is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Trip Raffle is new this year. $50 gets you one chance to win. $100 gets you three chances to win a $3,000 trip voucher. You pick where you want to go!

Our police officers, firefighters, and city staff will be cooking up lunch at Badges and Burgers on Friday, November 22, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Come out to Fire Station No. 1, located on 911 W. 4th Street, for a hamburger or cheeseburger, chips, drink, and cookie for only $5. You can drive through and pick up or sit down and have lunch with us! All proceeds will go to benefit the Children's Advocacy Center, Inc. in Pittsburg!

We are taking pre-orders from Tuesday, November 19, at 8:00 am until Thursday, November 21, at 5:00 pm. Delivery is available for pre-orders of five lunches or more and must be specified in pre-order.

Kansas Crossing Casino Black Friday

On Friday, November 29, Kansas Crossing Casino will offer select concert tickets for $5 each. $5 tickets may be purchased from 6am to 8am in the south lobby of the casino. A limited number of tickets will be available for the following shows:
? Holiday Rock Hits, featuring the Crawford County Philharmonic, with rock band Paralandra, Saturday, December 14 at 8pm.

? The return of xWe Wrestling, Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 8pm.

? Grammy nominated rock band, Great White, Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 8pm.

? Country singer, songwriter Colt Ford, Friday, February 28, 2020 at 8pm.

? Arena rock tribute band, Hairball, Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 8pm.

Each person may purchase up to 2 (two) tickets per show and up to 2 (two) shows per purchase. $5 tickets will be on sale from 6am to 8am on Friday, November 29 and only available in the Kansas Crossing south lobby. There will be a limited number of seats for each show. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. When reserved venue space is filled, the offer will close.

The presentation by Ms. Reed explores Ben and John Gunn’s local newspaper publishing business, 

John’s work on Little Blue Books, his relationship with both Marcet and E. Haldeman-Julius, and the impact this had on the publishing of pocket size books.

This special program is being presented in conjunction with the special quarterly exhibit “Little Blue Books 100 Years!” hosted by Linda Knoll. MHM is proud to display this special quarterly exhibit.

Match Day 2019

The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas is hosting Match Day 2019 to celebrate National Giving Tuesday on December 3. The Community Foundation has $35,000 in match funds available for 24 nonprofit organizations in Southeast Kansas. Match Day donations and match amounts help grow endowed funds that will support those nonprofit organizations for years to come.

Match Day donations can be made in person at the Community Foundation office, online at www.southeastkansas.org, or by mail postmarked no later than December 4 to P.O. Box 1448, Pittsburg.

The Remember Me Tree is a beautiful way to honor a loved one during the holiday season.  Two trees will be on display this year. Cover the Cruiser

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office along with the Pittsburg Police Department will hold a Cover the Cruiser event for the Law Enforcement Torch Run.  You will be able to purchase icons for a donation that will be put on the police cruiser.  We are trying to completely cover the cruiser!

All proceeds go to the Law Enforcement Torch Run.  This organization supports Special Olympics Kansas and provides funds for athletes to compete across the state.

Come out for some fun and good food!

This student-directed performance especially for young audiences has been a favorite of the holiday season for many years. In partnership with Mount Carmel Foundation, PHS Theatre presents it as a gift to the community. The event includes a 30-minute, student-directed play followed by breakfast provided by the Foundation, a craft or coloring pages, and an appearance by Santa. The event is free and open to the public with no tickets nor reservations required.

Red State: Socialism and the Free State Press

Join us this Sunday, December 15 at 2 p.m. at Miners Hall Museum in Franklin, KS for this special program. The program will be presented by Matthew Thompson.

The presentation by Mr. Thompson will discuss the rise and fall of the Socialist press in Kansas, as well as its causes, leaders, and detractors, and explore the role of the free press. Funded by Humanities Kansas.

Mother to Mother Gift Wrapping Fund raiser

We will wrap gifts for anyone during these dates. We ask for a donation, typically $2.00/package.  All proceeds benefit Mother to Mother Ministry.  Wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, boxes, etc. are provided for the customers.  We will also have some "Thank you to a caregiver cards" available for sale at this event.
