Match Day 2020

Match Day 2020

The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas is hosting Match Day 2020 to celebrate National Giving Tuesday on December 1. The Community Foundation has $40,000 in match funds available for 25 nonprofit organizations in Southeast Kansas. Match Day donations and match amounts help grow endowed funds that will support those nonprofit organizations for years to come.

Match Day donations can be made in one of three ways:

  • Online at www.southeastkansas.org;
  • By delivering your donation and donation form to the dropbox outside our office in the basement of the Commerce Bank building, 100 S. Broadway, Ste. 100.
  • By mail postmarked no later than December 2 to P.O. Box 1448 in Pittsburg.

Sleep United Raffle

Sleep United Raffle

United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas is giving people the opportunity to sleep better and help individuals and families in the community at the same time. As part of its 2020 campaign, United Way is holding the Sleep United Raffle for a chance to win a new Queen Size Adjustable Base bed with mattress courtesy of Leggett & Platt.

 

The Sleep United Raffle will run through the month of November. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the United Way offices at 3510 East 3rd Street in Joplin or 117 West 4th Street in Pittsburg inside the Chamber of Commerce building. Tickets can also be purchased via debit card, credit card or PayPal at www.unitedwaymokan.com/sleepunited. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas and its 2020 Campaign which provides funding for local nonprofit agencies across Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas.

Pittsburg Family Y 2020 Annual Fund Drive
Support the mission of the Pittsburg Family Y by giving to the Annual Fund. Contributions to the Annual Fund benefit the annual needs of the Y and its members by supporting scholarships, facility needs and general operations.

Scholarships - These funds assist families and individuals with membership and program fees. With your support, no one is turned away for the inability to pay for these services.
Facility Needs - Maintaining our building that was constructed in 1982 takes work. These funds are crucial for facility repairs, infrastructure needs, and cosmetic updates.
General Operations - From programs to equipment, ongoing assistance is needed to support the basic functions of the Y operations.

Mobile Hydraulic Systems & Hydrostatic Drive Training

**REGISTRATION IS OPEN TO ONLY 16**

Event runs daily 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (with lunch on your own each day)

Registration Fee = $900.00 (this fee will include a copy of  ‘Hydraulic Systems for Mobile Equipment’ textbook)

This training will enable participants to gain four days of hands-on instruction covering the four most popular styles of mobile machine hydraulic systems:

  • Open Center
  • Pressure Compensated
  • Pre-Spool Load Sensing
  • Flow Sharing

Additionally, Hydrostatic Drive topics will be covered:

  • Hydrostatic Drive Fundamentals
  • Hydrostatic Drive Adjustments
  • Hydrostatic Drive Diagnostics

NEEDED SUPPLIES: Safety Glasses, Proper Attire (long pants, slacks or jeans) and optional (laptop, camera, notepad and pencil/pen).

PRESENTER:

Timothy Dell, professor of Automotive Technology, has taught at Pittsburg State University for 21 years. Dr. Dell received his doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Kansas State University, a master of science degree in Technology Education from Pittsburg State University, and a bachelor of science degree in Automotive Technology with an emphasis in Diesel and Heavy Equipment from Pittsburg State University. He began his career working for Case IH in their Technical Service Group in Racine, WI, specializing in combine diagnostics.

He currently teaches Automotive Electricity and Electronic Systems, Automotive Automatic Transmissions, Advanced Hydraulic Systems and Construction Equipment Systems. Tim has authored two textbooks: Hydraulic Systems for Mobile Equipment and Heavy Equipment Power Trains and Systems.

  • Basic set up and pre-flight instructions for drones
  • Safe flying practices and regulations

Presenters:

Jason Ward, Assistant Professor at Pittsburg State University in the Graphics and Imaging Technologies Department, has been teaching digital media and camera operations for 18 years. He has been a certified drone operator for 3 years.

Rob Freeman has been operating Freeman Drones for 3 years, specializing in drone photography, video, and 3D drone mapping.

Steve has over 25 years of Automotive experience and is also an ASE Master Certified Technician and L1 Certified as well. Steve has presented nationally to other college professors also.

Intro to Programming | 6 week Training

NOTE: This will be a structured 6-week workshop series. Kickoff weekend session, online sessions one night each week, and a closeout weekend session. We will have full day (in-person) sessions March 20th, 9 am-4 pm, and May 1st, 9am-4pm. In between these two dates, we will have one nightly (online) session per week, Tuesdays, 6:30 pm-9:30 pm.

College credit is available from Pittsburg State University – 1 hour – $99 

This workshop series is designed to help teach individuals with no programming experience the fundamentals of coding.

Attendees will gain a strong baseline of fundamental programming knowledge, including an overview of programming languages, coding fundamentals, data structures and algorithms, source control, and how to put it all together to create meaningful solutions to problems.

By the end of the training, attendees should be able to write basic programs that solves problems, and have a firm foundation for further programming knowledge.

Presenter:

John Kuefler is a software architect, consultant, and university instructor. He is a Xamarin Certified Developer, and a Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator.

Having spent years as the lead software architect for a programming team, he gained in-depth experience creating software solutions from the ground up. He also has years of software consulting experience, as well as teaching at the collegiate level. He loves to combine his passion for education and technology. He has developed back end applications and infrastructure designed to service large user bases, mobile applications, bots, and a myriad of other solutions with an emphasis on stability and customer experience.
